What is 340B?

»340B is a drug pricing program resulted from enactment of the Veterans Care Act of 1992, Public Law 102-585, which is codified as Sec 340B of the Public Health Service Act.

»340B limits the cost of covered outpatient drugs to certain Federal grantees. All prescriptions that are purchased outside a hospital facility can now be purchased under the 340B program. The intent of this program is "to stretch scarce Federal resources as far as possible, reaching more eligible patients and providing more comprehensive services” *
